Iowa

This post is so far overdue!  Brian and Luke went on a special trip to Iowa back in July.  A bunch of the pictures were on Brian's phone, I have just procrastinated in getting them all off. Better late than never...

One of Luke's birthday twins is his Great Grandpa Don. (the other is his Great Uncle Todd)  They were both born on July 21st and are 85 years apart! This summer was a big celebration for Grandpa Don's 90th birthday, so Brian and Luke took a special boys trip up north.  Luke was beyond excited to have time with just daddy, go on a plane, and have some fun.

Luke loved the plane ride, and watching all the planes at the airport.

After arriving in Des Moines, the boys had a bit of a drive to get to Forest City, Iowa.  They made a special stop in Ames, to see Iowa State University.  Brian went there for 2 years and walked on the swim team his first year, and the basketball team his second year.  It holds many special memories for him.

Here is the coliseum where he played basketball.  Tracy also played tons of games here.

Brian's old college house.  Looks cute, but all I remember is how disgusting the inside was!  3 swimmer boys lived there, and it could have been cleaner!

They also made a stop at an extended family members train museum.  I think it is the largest private collection of trains in the country.

When they got to Forest City, they met up with Nonnie and Grandpa, and got to stay in an RV on some land owned by Grandpa's cousin.  Luke thought it was the coolest!

Luke loved exploring the farm.

He ran through the corn fields like a maze.  Can you see him in this pic?

Rode his bike all over.

Played hide and seek.

Dug up an onion, and ate it.  Yes you read that right!  Gross!

Picked apples.

And just explored everywhere.

Brian sent me this picture and I about panicked!

Then he sent me these!  I think they were suppose to make me feel better, but didn't help much in the mommy worry department.  Now I was worried about the building collapsing!

He also enjoyed fishing.

And even got to go to a dairy farm.

Luke got to meet several relatives he has never met, and spent a lot of special time with Nonnie and Grandpa.

They also visited a small airport with tons of planes.

All this activity made for one pooped kid!  Here he is at the 90th birthday party.

Here is Grandpa with his dad, Grandpa Don, and his three siblings.

Grandpa Don and his sisters.

All of the grand kids who could make it, plus some great-grand kids.

Still pooped!

They woke up bright and early on Luke's 5th birthday to head home.  This mama was so excited to see her now 5 year old!

Man he looks old!

What a wonderful memory Brian and Luke made.  Hopefully we will all be able to make it up there soon!
