Lots of Luke

Luke has had lots of school activities and events this year, so I wanted to do a post on all the fun he has been having as an official elementary school kid.  Above is his first yearbook picture.  I love it!  He looks so old!

Luke's school has some clubs available to the kindergartners, and these clubs were presented to them a couple of months ago.  It is a completely optional thing, and something you do after school.  Luke was very interested in being on the "Green Team".  This team is all about recycling and helping the environment.  He took the initiative upon himself, and went down to the office to get an application.  He filled it out at home, and then got a call a couple of days later that he was selected to be in the club.  We are so proud of him!
Here he is working hard on his application.

Here he is on leadership night, manning the booth, and educating the school on how to protect the environment.  His sister came along to the event and they got to meet the school mascot.

Here is Luke at his very first Fun Run.  He did awesome, and ran so many laps, he went past the limit!

Luke had his first field trip, and I was so excited to be able to be a chaperone.  I was assigned Luke, plus two other sweet boys, and we had so much fun.  We got to ride the bus, which was a huge hit among the kindergartners,.  We went to a pumpkin patch, and did lots of exploring.

The boys wanted to sit in the very back on the way home, and it was a bit bumpy to say the least!

Luke was picked as Star Of The Week, and got to bring in a mystery object.  He decided to bring in his R2D2 that he got from Disneyland this summer.

We had a special playdate at the Heard Museum with a sweet friend.

The girls got to meet Luke for lunch last month. They all loved it!

Brian and I got to go to his Thanksgiving Feast.  What a turkey!

Luke made this self portrait in art, and I was pretty impressed.  I was told that he made black circles in the ears, because "people have darkness in there".  HaHa!  Very observant!  He was picked as a featured kindergarten artist to have his portrait hung in the main school hallway.

Luke also came home last Friday with some big news.  At the school wide assembly he was chosen for his class as the Habit Hero.  Only one kid per class gets chosen and he got to stand up with all the other recipients.  The habit he was chosen for was, "Seek first to understand, then to be understood". That boy does ask a lot of questions! The school also won a special treat for raising money for diabetes.  The kids were totally surprised to see Darth Vader and some Storm Troopers show up!  Even more amazing, is that Grandpa, was actually dressed as one of the Storm Troopers, and Luke had no idea!  Since his Nonnie taught there for so many years, they asked Grandpa if he would dress up, since he was a good Storm Trooper size.  Haha!

Last night was a big milestone for Brian and I, our first kid to play basketball!!  Brian and I met in high school on the varsity basketball float for the homecoming parade.  We were both on the team, and obviously love the game.  While we will encourage our kids to do whatever they want, it would be nice if one of them wanted to play basketball. =)  It was so fun to see him out on the court, and I can't wait to see how the season goes!

We love us some Luke!

We had a wonderful Halloween with Maleficent, Luke Skywalker, and Captain Hook.  The kids all chose their own costumes, including Savannah, who insisted on Captain Hook, over any girl pirate I suggested! I am so happy I let her choose, as she is the cutest Captain Hook ever!  Here are our three crazies in action!

Apparently Brian and I went as lumberjacks. =)

Aunt Tracy was able to join us trick or treating for the second year in a row.  They sure love her!

Nonnie and Grandpa stopped by to check out the costumes before we left.

We then stopped at Tula and Pop's house to get some candy.  They were babysitting baby Isaac.

We then headed to the Larkin's house to meet friends and our cousins.  We had so much fun in their neighborhood and it was so fun to see Rebecca and Savannah really get into it this year.

Now here is some of our pre-Halloween fun.  Pumpkin carving at the Schmids.

Audrey had a Halloween parade at her school, and looked so cute.

Rebecca was in the same parade, and ended up making Ali walk with her the whole way.

Audrey's Frog class.

The Friday before Halloween, Brian and I had a party to go to at Rett and Ashley's house, so the kids spent the night at Nonnie and Grandpa's.  We stopped by on our way out to see all of the Halloween creations they made.

We then headed to Mad Max and a Fabulous Witch's house for a fun time.  We met Trump and Hilary there as well.  Brian and I we AC Slater and Jesse Spano from Saved By the Bell.  Man I miss that show. =)

We celebrated Ashley's birthday as well, and had an amazing night! This Halloween will be hard to top!
