Last Wednesday Brian had to have surgery on his ear. About 2 months ago, he got elbowed in the side of the head playing basketball, which created a huge hole in his eardrum. We were waiting to see if perhaps it would heal on its own, but sadly it ended up infected and Brian pretty much lost all hearing in his right ear. It was like living with a 80 year old man!
Awww I'm so sympathetic, aren't I?! So, last week he went in for surgery to correct it. I was able to go, while my mom stayed home with Luke, which was a huge help. Brian did great, and had to have his eardrum patched with fascia taken behind his ear. During the surgery, the doctor discovered that the main reason he couldn't hear was because 2 of his inner ear bones were no longer touching. They had gotten knocked out of place somehow, and Brian had to have a tiny prosthesis placed inside to keep them together. So overall, it was more than we thought would have to be done, but Brian had little pain and is now back to his old self. He goes next week to see how the graft looks, so we are praying it stayed in place and is healing up nicely. Here is the patient prior to going in, wearing some snazzy socks, I might add!
Post surgery. Haha! My mom thought he looked like Aunt Jemima, and I would have to agree. =)
Brian actually ruptured his eardrum when he was 5 years old and had a similar surgery. What a sweet boy, and so funny to have comparison pictures!
Brian slept most of the day when he got home, and had a great helper around, eager to make his daddy feel better. Luke kept saying, "poor daddy, boo boo on ear".
He even went and got the quilt off his bed to cover his daddy up, and then decided he would he would sleep with him. He is totally fake sleeping, if you can't tell. :)
We are so thankful to God that everything went well, and I look forward to next week to see if I no longer have to live with an 80 year old man! =)
love the comparison pics and how cute is luke loving on his daddy!
